RUSSIAN SECURITY FORCES SHOOT DEAD TWO ISIS MILITANTS IN STAVROPOL

(Iraq News)- Russias National Anti-Terror Committee spokesman Alexander Polyakov said on Saturday (April 22) security forces had killed two armed militants who had been trained by Islamic State (ISIS) and were planning a series of "terrorist crimes".

In a video distributed by the National Anti-Terror Committee, Polyakov said the two men had been killed in the Stavropol region of Southern Russia after a shootout with security forces who had tried to stop their car.

“One of them was a leader of that cell who underwent training in Islamic State camps and came to Russia to conduct terrorist attacks.

Another one was its active member,” Polyakov said.

“In a house where one of the gunmen has been living, grenades, homemade bombs filled with shrapnel ready to be used, traumatic pistol, IS symbols and religious extremist literature were found." Russia has been on heightened alert after a suicide bomber killed 16 people in an attack on the St Petersburg metro earlier this month.

Russias Federal Security Service said on Friday (April 21) that a gunman had burst into one of its regional offices in the far east of the country and opened fire, killing one of its employees and a visitor.

The Site Intelligence Group, a U.S.-based monitoring service, said ISIS claimed responsibility for that attack.
