TURKEY SHELLS KURDISTAN REGION’S AMEDI DISTRICT FOR THIRD DAY RUNNING

2017/04/23 | 15:36

(Iraq News)- Turkish warplanes bombarded the district of Amedi in the Kurdistan Region on Sunday (April 23) targeting suspected positions of the PKK.

NRT correspondent Nihad Oramari said that airstrikes hit Qandil Mountain, two of which targeted the village of Kriskandara without human casualties.

Sunday’s bombardment is the third day in a row that Turkey has targeted the Amedi district.

Turkish warplanes had previously shelled a community in the district of Amedi in the Kurdistan Region on Saturday, wounding one person.

Another person was also wounded on Friday (April 21) after military artillery bombarded the Kurazhari Mountains in Shiladze sub-district four times around 11 a.m.

Turkey resumed the shelling of suspected PKK positions inside the Kurdistan Region in July 2015 after a two-year ceasefire between the Turkish military and the PKK came to an end.

The three-decade long conflict between Turkey and the PKK – which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state – has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
