HEWLÊR-Erbil, Iraq’s Kurdistan region,— Iraqi Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Culture has formed a committee to investigate how a book with blatant discrimination against women was sanctioned and published in the Kurdistan Region, the Ministry’s spokesperson said on Sunday.

The cover page of the book titled Fatwas by Senior Islamic Scientists Over Prohibition of Driving for Women, led to an uproar on social media sites in recent days.

Farhang Gomashini told BasNews that the Ministry of Culture has no idea how the book was licensed and published, but a committee has been assigned to investigate this.

“If it turns out that the book promotes violence against females and the procedures for publishing the book were illegal, the perpetrators will face court,” said Gomashini.
