Former president of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani.

   WAAR-DUHOK:

Prominent Kurdish leader and former president of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, has released a statement on the first anniversary of Kirkuk occupation by the Iraqi government and Iranian-backed militias of Hashd al-Shaabi, describing it as “a dark day” in the history of Kurdistan.

“16th October is a dark day in the history of our people.

It was on this day when a dishonourable treason was done against the aspiration of the people who have always been subject to oppression,” reads Barzani’s statement.

According to Barzani, the plan was originally to destroy the Kurdistan Region as a constitutional, political, and administrative entity, which was defeated by the Peshmerga forces who gave their lives to reverse the plot.
