KRG WILL PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR DARBANDIKHAN QUAKE DAMAGE

(Iraq Now News)- The Kurdistan Region Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani on Tuesday (November 14) announced plans to provide financial assistance to compensate victims of an earthquake that hit Darbandikhan and to repair the town’s damaged infrastructure.

The administration of the Kurdistan’s worst affected area of Darbandikhan will be provided a budget for compensation works, said Barzani during his visit to the town – accompanied by his deputy Qubad Talabani.

Barzani said his visit was to assess the damage that had occurred during the natural disaster.

Barzani’s comments came after he and his delegation met with the administration of Darbandikhan, where so far, five people have been killed by the 7.2 magnitude quake.

The Kurdistan Region PM also visited Darbandikhan dam where, according to the dam head, the quake left cracks in the upper part of the construction.

He said a technical team is assessing the damages to the dam.

The head of the Darbandikhan dam, Rahman Khani said on Monday that there has been no decrease in the water levels so far.

According to the Iranian government, death toll from the earthquake occurred in the Iranian Kurdistan has risen to more than 400 people.
