(Iraq Now News)- Over 1,000 ISIS terrorists are still at large on the outskirts of Hawija town and other districts in Kirkuk Governorate, Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) MP Shwan al-Dawdi revealed Monday.   In a press statement, al-Dawdi said all ISIS terrorists, who had not turned themselves in to the Peshmerga forces, are currently present in Hawija and other districts in Kirkuk.  After Hawija was recaptured in October, the Iraqi forces have discovered 800-1,000 bodies of ISIS terrorists in Hawija out of 3,000, who are thought to have been living in the town, according to estimations prior to the military operation, he added. Earlier, it was reported that about 1,000 ISIS terrorists had turned themselves in to Peshmerga forces during the military operation to recapture Hawija. On October 5, Hawija, ISIS’ last urban stronghold in Iraq, was recaptured.

US-backed Iraqi government troops began the offensive on 21 September.Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over ISIS on Saturday, announcing the end of more than three years of battles to regain control over nearly one-third of the country that had been under the terrorist group’s dominion.
