Elections in Kurdistan likely to be postponed to September - KSDP

2018/01/14 | 14:25

(Iraq Now News)- The general elections in Kurdistan Region are likely to be postponed to September at the request of some political parties in the region, Mohamed al-Hajj Mahmoud, secretary of Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party (KSDP), revealed Saturday.

In a press conference held in Sulaymaniyah, Mahmoud said the present stage, crises and internal problems Kurdistan is facing requires unity of all political parties to overcome them.

When Kurdish political parties contest the upcoming elections in Iraq with one list, this will serve Kurdistan Region’s interests, he noted.

But there is a rift within the ranks of Kurdish parties.

This will adversely affect the future of the region, he further stated.

Some political parties in Kurdistan call for clearing voter registers from the names of the deceased and repeated names before talking about holding the region’s elections.
