Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, commander of the Nineveh operations, announced “The neighborhood of Saha2 on the western side of Mosul was controlled by the counter-terror forces who hoisted the Iraqi flag over it.” Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Forces (ICTS) is an effective branch of the army assigned to liberate the right bank of Mosul along with the Rapid Response Force and the Federal Police.
Referring to ISIS militants fighting to hold onto its dwindling territory in the city, Yarallah added the “enemy suffered the loss of lives and materials.”Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq, was occupied by ISIS in the summer of 2014.
Since a military campaign launched in October 2016, Iraqi forces managed to recover the eastern half of the city.
On 19 February, they launched an offensive to reclaim the western half and have retaken an estimated 60 percent.
They are currently engaged in a slow, tough fight in the central, old districts of western Mosul.
